"This case is heartbreaking and deeply personal, not only for the Reiner family and their loved ones but for our entire city,"
"We will continue to support the Reiner family and ensure that every step forward is taken with care, dignity and resolve."
Nick Reiner, 32, faces two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of his parents, 78-year-old actor-director Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner. Prosecutors added special circumstances of multiple murder and a special allegation that a dangerous weapon, a knife, was used, which could increase potential sentencing. The Los Angeles District Attorney has not yet decided whether to seek the death penalty. The couple was found with apparent stab wounds in their Brentwood home, and Nick Reiner was arrested hours later near USC without resisting. An initial court appearance was delayed for medical reasons and no plea has been entered.
