"STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The 2025 Staten Island Golf Association's Senior Amateur golf championship started two Fridays ago at LaTourette Golf Course, and after three rounds of matches the final will be held Sunday at RichmondCounty Country Club between Rodney Stilwell (a multiple winner of this event) and his close friend Danny Pizzuto (a first-time 50-year-old in this event). During the qualifying round, Mike Marotta (also a former winner) led the field with a score of two-over par 74, to sneak past Jack Kinlock (another former winner), Pizzuto and Matt Zuntag, who all shot 75."
"Last Saturday's first round of matches was played at Silver Lake, where all of the higher seeds except Zuntag won their matches. Mark Dudziec came from the 13th seed to upset Zuntag, 1 up. Those matches left quarterfinal matches between Marotta (who beat Andrew Fishman, 4 & 2) and Stilwell (who beat George Wonica, Jr., 5 & 4); John Sanginari (who beat Ed Perpetua, 6 & 4) against Dudziec; Kinlock (who defeated Vic Stora 3 & 2) against his own brother, Eric Nelson (who beat legend Skip Tellefsen, 4 & 2); and Pizzuto (who snuck past John Horenburg, 1 up) and Ed Gardner - coach of the Notre Dame Academy golf team (who beat Vinny Pontieri, 1 up)."
"In the quarterfinals last Sunday (also at Silver Lake), the big match between former winners lived up to its hype, as Marotta's birdie on the third hole gave him a quick 1 up lead, but he gave that back on the seventh hole with a bogie. Another birdie on the 11th hole again gave Marotta a slight lead, but his bogies on 13 and 16 gave Stilwell his first lead that he did not give up, winning on the 18th, 1 up."
Qualifying at LaTourette produced Mike Marotta as medalist with a two-over 74, while Jack Kinlock, Danny Pizzuto and Matt Zuntag each shot 75; Rodney Stilwell qualified eighth with a 77. First-round matches at Silver Lake saw most higher seeds advance, with Mark Dudziec upsetting Zuntag from the 13th seed. Quarterfinal matchups featured Marotta vs. Stilwell, Sanginari vs. Dudziec, Kinlock vs. Eric Nelson, and Pizzuto vs. Ed Gardner. Stilwell defeated Marotta 1 up after late bogies from Marotta. The final will pair multiple champion Stilwell against first-time entrant Pizzuto.
