Marjorie Taylor Greene calls for George Santos to be pardoned
"On Monday (22 September), Greene took to X, formerly Twitter, to condemn the former New York representative's prison conditions after he was placed in solitary confinement following a death threat the FBI is investigating. Santos claimed in a 16 September post he was "forced into solitary confinement while behind bars" but months earlier on 5 April he posted he would demand to be kept in solitary for the duration of his sentence to because he refused "to lose my dignity in anyway shape or form"."
"In her post, Greene claimed Santos is "in his cell 24 hours per day", "only allowed to get a shower 3 times a week", "does not get any sunlight" and is "only allowed to buy stamps from the commissary and is drinking water from the sink" Greene labelled his conditions "torture" and said his 87-month sentence is "way too long for the crimes he was sentenced for"."
Marjorie Taylor Greene called for George Santos's seven-year prison sentence to be commuted, citing his placement in solitary confinement after a death threat under FBI investigation. She alleged he is confined to his cell 24 hours per day, allowed showers only three times a week, receives no sunlight, can only buy stamps from the commissary, and drinks water from the sink. Santos pleaded guilty to 23 federal felonies in August 2024, including aggravated identity theft and wire fraud, and was expelled from Congress in December 2023. A judge sentenced him in April to seven years and two months and ordered $578,753 in restitution to victims.
