Colombia's female prison population has increased over fivefold since 1991, primarily due to harsh drug laws, affecting many minor players in trafficking.
The authorities at Combinado del Este prison led Lazaro Yuri Valle Roca out in handcuffs, emaciated and in desperation, as he ultimately left Cuba under duress.
"Combs' lawyers have highlighted a litany of horrors at the jail, including deplorable conditions, rampant violence and multiple deaths as they've made repeated attempts to get him released on bail."
