"I am pleased to advise that I reversed the cuts made to Homeland Security and Counterterrorism for New York City and State. It was my Honor to do so,"
"From the moment these devastating cuts were announced, I made it clear that New York would not stand by while our law enforcement and counterterrorism operations were defunded,"
"I'm glad President Trump heard our call and reversed course, ensuring our state has the resources necessary to support law enforcement and keep our families safe."
President Donald Trump said he reversed $187 million in cuts to homeland security and counterterrorism funding for New York City and State, announcing the change on Truth Social. Governor Kathy Hochul had sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem saying the cuts represented 86% of the state’s homeland security funding and would affect the NYPD, fire department, state police, and other law enforcement agencies. The reduction would have cut NYPD counterterrorism funding from $90 million to nearly $10 million, which Commissioner Jessica Tisch called a devastating blow and warned New York is the top terror target. Hochul credited political pushback for the restoration, and Representative Nicole Malliotakis said she spoke with the president and opposed the cuts.
