"Just steps from the Esplanade des Invalides and the rue de l'Université, Valériane Lazard composed a symphony in light oak, Arabescato royal marble, woven linen, and copper details. "I was drawn to the famous Paris Opera dancer Cléo de Mérode from the Belle Époque," says the interior architect and designer, who won the Young Talent AD & Range Rover Awards 2024 in the Ultimate Chic Elegance category."
""She was an extremely beautiful woman whose outfits always featured an abundance of fabric." says interior architect and designer Valériane Lazard, winner of one of the AD & Range Rover Awards 2024 in the Ultimate Chic Elegance category. The first place to notice this materiality is the curtain behind the headboard in the effectively canopied bedroom-there is an undeniable theatrical quality to this large expanse of linen."
""As soon as you enter, you see a kind of sculpture. It's a door handle, but I wanted it to be like a painting made from the material," says Lazard, who commissioned the cast bronze piece (the same material was also used for the fireplace, and made by the same artisan.) Above the fireplace, four panels conceal a flat screen TV and a sound system for the entire apartment."
The apartment sits steps from the Esplanade des Invalides and rue de l'Université and features a palette of light oak, Arabescato royal marble, woven linen, copper, and neutral colors. Internal walls were removed to open the plan and preserve sleeping-area intimacy by keeping it partially concealed. The entrance includes lava stone flooring, wardrobe storage, an alcove, a large mirror, and expansive storage for shoes and luggage. Custom cast bronze details serve as sculptural door handles and fireplace elements made by the same artisan. Four panels above the fireplace hide a flat-screen TV and a whole-apartment sound system. A linen curtain behind the canopy-like headboard adds theatricality.
