"This Architecture is located in a place where the nature of the forest and river. It was built adjacent to the existing building, which is an old Japanese traditional wooden architectural style. We designed the Architecture to harmonize with this traditional architecture and nature. A contrast between traditional old wooden structures and modern, powerful structures made of concrete. It was designed with consideration to the landscape, keeping the height low, and along a sloping land."
"A contrast between traditional old wooden structures and modern, powerful structures made of concrete."
Villa K occupies a forest-and-river setting adjacent to an existing traditional Japanese wooden building. The design harmonizes with the neighboring wooden architecture and the natural landscape while deliberately introducing modern concrete forms to create contrast. Massing remains low and follows the sloping terrain to respect the site's topography. Material contrasts emphasize the dialogue between old wooden structures and new concrete volumes. Lighting by Noriko Togashi complements spatial composition. The design balances contextual scale and contemporary expression to integrate built form sensitively into the natural and architectural surroundings.
