With the festive season in full swing and many people planning to take a well-deserved break, grabbing a few downloads from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog sounds like a grand idea. For December, the subscription service is adding 10 more games to its library, including the day-one release of Skate Story, Assassin's Creed action with an old-school flavor, and a colorful RPG adventure in the skies.

In the fiction of Assassin's Creed, humanity is descended from ancient aliens, and this knowledge is suppressed throughout history; the tide of world events is influenced by a shadow war between two secret societies; the media exists to manipulate the public. This makes for an exciting series of video games with a near-limitless scope. It also echoes uncomfortable real-world conspiracy theories that have proven consequential in our lifetime.

In its latest earnings briefing, Ubisoft said the Assassin's Creed series overall "posted a strong performance" in the latest quarter, including sales of the newest game, Shadows, and back-catalog titles. The Assassin's Creed series had more than 211 million "session days" so far in 2025, which is about 35% higher than the average for the past two years, Ubisoft said.

Reportedly funded by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, the Valley of Memory DLC is a free major update for the 2023 game that takes Basim to the AlUla region in search of his long-lost father. It includes a new skill, tool customization, difficulty levels, and replaybale missions and challenges. The most important change to me, however, is the addition of a manual jump to add more depth to the parkour. The stealth action series hasn't had a dedicated jump button since Unity as movement became more streamlined and automated. Hopefully, the experiment pays dividends in Valley of Memory and paves the way for more complex parkour in the next big Assassin's Creed sequel.

A remake of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is believed to be in the works at Ubisoft, with several leaks pointing to the game's existence. A French outlet has now shared more details about the reported remake in question, including planned changes to the game's story and gameplay and its likely release window. The Black Flag remake will reportedly be an RPG-style Assassin's Creed title, closer to recent entries in the series.

Assassin's Creed Mirage trades expansive RPG mechanics for a straightforward action experience, focusing on stealth gameplay set in 9th-century Baghdad, completing in around a dozen hours.
