THE FAI have lodged their pre-budget submission with government for the support of League of Ireland academies with the football organisation looking for an initial amount of €4.45m per annum for two years that will create a total of 81 new jobs in clubs around the country before a jump to €8m annually with the hope of creating 340 full and part-time jobs to kickstart an industry.
With a pre-prepared statement about a catastrophic international result as the starter of a press briefing that concluded with a response to a public lashing from Roy Keane, perhaps this is the day that David Courell truly arrived as FAI chief executive.
"Yeah I spoke to them, they spoke to every Tom, Dick, and Harry, but even that was a farce. The amount of people who have come out in the last six months that said they were offered the job. But that's the FAI, I've said it before, they couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery. It's sad, it's a long way back. But the FAI as well need to get their house in order."
