Storm Bram has caused travel misery for commuters with high winds and torrential overnight rainfall causing flooding and leaving storm debris on many roads.The storm - which rapidly strengthened as it approached Ireland from the south Atlantic - made landfall in Kerry, Cork, Waterford and Wexford early this morning as people were urged to take care during the powerful weather event.

Humberto - which last weekend was classified as a Category-5 hurricane with devastating 260kmh winds - is not expected to make landfall in the US after forming in the Caribbean. Instead, it is expected to sweep across the Atlantic this week, weakening as it travels, but potentially reaching Ireland on Friday. As Humberto departs the Caribbean, yet another major storm is forming, with this tropical depression expected to expand into Storm Imelda.

The high temperatures and fine, ­sunny days of summer have been replaced with heavy showers, blustery winds and cooler daytime temperatures. As children head back to school, there are often hopes of an Indian summer, an unseasonal return of good weather many people in Ireland call the "back-to-school weather". However, the forecast for the days and weeks ahead gives little hope for a return to summery conditions.
