Cristo Fernandez has signed for American second-tier side El Paso Locomotive after a two-month trial. The 35-year-old Mexican, who played Dani Rojas in the hit Apple TV+ programme between 2020 and 2023, will now take up a different role for the USL Championship side. Fernandez played youth football in his home city of Guadalajara, but stepped away from the game at the age of 15 because of a knee injury.
Jonah Heim was a free agent in the first place after he got non-tendered by the Texas Rangers following two underwhelming seasons. He hit .213/.271/.332 with a .266 wOBA and 69 wRC+ last season, which would be an acceptable amount of production for a catcher if their defense was good. Unfortunately for Heim, his defense was not good in 2025 as he graded below average in plenty of defensive catching metrics in 2025.
Red Bull New York completed the signing of German center-back Robert Voloder on Monday to a three-year contract that will run through December of 2028 with an option to complete the 2028-29 season. Since he already has his green card, he does not occupy an international roster spot. The 24-year-old spent the last four seasons with Sporting Kansas City, where he made 78 career appearances.
Voit signed with the Eagles in June and made a quick impact with his new team. Over 276 plate appearances and 67 games as a DH and first baseman, Voit hit .300/.384/.498 with 13 home runs. Despite his late entry to the 2025 campaign, Voit still led the Eagles in homers, and had the second-most RBI (39) on the team. Retaining Voit was a logical move for the power-starved Eagles, whose 70 homers were the fewest of NPB's 12 clubs.
George Fant has signed with the Washington Commanders on a one-year deal after a successful workout. His experience in the league offers depth to an offensive line facing injury concerns.
