Greenland is currently making headlines, much to the chagrin of Greenlanders. U.S. President Donald Trump's ambition to seize this island, an autonomous territory of Denmark, a NATO founding member, has turned global attention to a corner of the planet they probably hadn't considered before, or to Wikipedia or AI tools, to find out who lives on that enormous white patch in a corner of the American continent, and how.
Former consort braved the newly reincarnated Absolute Bagels & bailed when he found 45 people in line, in the cold. One of our oldest friends, who retreated to the Bay Area long ago, always used to say: "The more New Yorkers get fucked, the more they like it." Now with more Instagram...
"Today, another kind of treasure typically lures travelers to Franklin, though, one found among the trails, waterfalls, and scenic byways of the community. Surrounded by the Nantahala National Forest, and a gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains, Franklin is closely tied to the Appalachian Trail, and became the first designated Appalachian Trail Community in 2010, welcoming travelers with open arms."

Sand City sits just two miles from the Monterey Bay Aquarium, yet until this month, visitors couldn't spend the night in town. For decades, this half-square-mile town wedged between Costco and Highway 1 has been hiding in plain sight - a warehouse district turned open-air art gallery, where murals climb concrete walls and sculptors work in spaces that once stored industrial equipment.
Some seem to defy gravity, rise to unimaginable heights, and traverse difficult terrains. These iconic bridges are engineering marvels that offer tourists immense exploration opportunities. While they were built to serve as links between two points and enhance transportation, adventurers cannot help but admire the technical prowess involved in their construction and the scenery these bridges create. "Violent crime can occur anywhere in Grenada," the State Department wrote in its message, adding "In some cases, American citizens have been killed. Police response times are not as fast as one may expect in the United States."

The district has 20,000 inhabitants according to the 2021 census, and a long history. In April of 1500, the Portuguese docked on the Bahian coast and first encountered the Pataxo, an Indigenous people who lived in harmony with the Atlantic jungle. In 1586, the Jesuit missionaries founded a town here by the name of Trancoso. Over the centuries that followed, the community remained isolated and rural, dedicated to fishing and agriculture, disconnected from the rest of the country until well into the 20th century.
When Ireland redeveloped a swathe of central Dublin in the 1990s, the idea was to create a version of Paris's Left Bank, a cultural quarter of cobbled lanes, art and urban renewal. Planners and architects transformed the run-down Temple Bar site by the River Liffey into an ambitious experiment that drew throngs of visitors and won awards. Three decades later, there are some withering verdicts on what happened next. It seems that Temple Bar is becoming a violent post-apocalyptic place, a judge said last year after sentencing a man who bludgeoned a victim with a can of cider. It's shocking to see it, that people can't be safe down there.
Two trains taking tourists to and from Peru's famed archaeological site of Machu Picchu crashed on Tuesday, killing at least one person and injuring about 30 passengers. The person killed was a railroad worker, according to Jhonathan Castillo Gonzalez, a captain with the Cuzco police department. He told the Associated Press that the railway suspended services along the rail line connecting Machu Picchu with the nearby city of Cuzco after the accident.
A floating community sauna on frozen Lake Oulu seemed as good a place as any to ask Finnish locals what they think of the European Capital of Culture bandwagon that will be rolling into their city in 2026. Two women sweltering on the top bench seemed to sweat more over my question than over the clouds of sauna steam the result of a beefy Finn ladling water on the wood-fired coals with a grim determination to broil us all.
For decades, Avenida Revolucion in Tijuana was a bustling tourist zone, attracting U.S. visitors with its colorful souvenir shops, restaurants and nightlife. But at some point, popular interest in the historic district faded. State and city officials have been trying to revitalize the area for some time to attract more tourists, with hopes of making it a place locals want to hang out, too. The latest move involves closing off a few blocks to vehicles to make way for a pedestrian promenade.

It was only when huge areas of Iceland started turning purple that authorities realised they had made a mistake. By then, it was too late. The Nootka lupin, native to Alaska, had coated the sides of fjords, sent tendrils across mountain tops and covered lava fields, grasslands and protected areas. Since it arrived in the 1940s, it has become an accidental national symbol. Hordes of tourists and local people pose for photos in the ever-expanding fields in June and July, entranced by the delicate cones of flowers that cover the north Atlantic island.
Poised on a steel cable a quarter of a mile above Manhattan, a weather-beaten man in work dungarees reaches up to tighten a bolt. Below, though you hardly dare to look down, lies the Hudson River, the sprawling cityscape of New York and the US itself, rolling out on to the far horizon. If you fell from this rarefied spot, it would take about 11 seconds to hit the ground.
Good news for travelers looking to spend an extended time in Vietnam soaking up the energy of Ho Chi Minh City's frenetic streets, reveling in Hanoi's astounding cafés and food stalls, and sailing amid Ha Long Bay's green-tinged islets: the nation has launched the first phase of its new "golden visa program." The three-part visa initiative was first announced in spring 2025 as part of a larger directive from Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
There was a time - not so long ago, though it already feels sepia-tinted - when London was the sort of place that tourists arrived in with stars in their eyes and left with shopping bags cutting off circulation at the fingers. Harrods bags, Selfridges bags, Mulberry bags, the bright yellow of Fortnum's peeking out of a suitcase being sat on in a hotel lobby. Europe's favourite grown-up playground; Manhattan's chic transatlantic sibling; Tokyo's idea of European swagger with better tailoring and more chaotic restaurants.
New York just scored the silver medal on the global stage, coming in as the number two city in the world in Resonance Consultancy's 2026 World's Best Cities ranking. Yes, London hung onto the crown again, but New York City isn't exactly sulking in the corner. Our racked up praise for its cultural might, airport power moves and the kind of urban glow-up only New York can pull off, from shiny towers to subway upgrades that, miraculously, appear to be happening in real life.
The Eisbach wave in the Englischer Garten park has become a landmark in the Bavarian city since rogue surfers in the 1980s turned it from an occasional natural phenomenon to a permanent surfable presence. The city administration is working with the Water Management Office and surfers to find a quick solution so that the famous surf wave will soon be available again as usual, Mayor Dieter Reiter said in a statement Tuesday.
Using data from Airbnb, the study found that 81 percent of French municipalities have at least one accommodation available for rent on Airbnb. In comparison, only 15.6 percent of municipalities have a hotel. In municipalities with fewer than 500 inhabitants, only five percent have a hotel, but more than two-thirds of them have at least one accommodation listed on Airbnb.
I was born and raised in Philadelphia, and I've encountered so many tourists who visit my city. There are so many great restaurants and cheesesteak shops beyond Pat's and Geno's. Visitors should make time to see the art museum near the Rocky steps and the city's green spaces. Philadelphia is famous for its passionate sports fans, historic landmarks, vibrant culinary scene, and much more.
In the village is a collection of 13 buildings that were previously used as a training centre for France Télecom. When the centre closed, they were bought by a local couple who created Street Art City, the world's only street art theme park. The collection of old buildings now forms an extraordinary canvas - 22,000 square metres, entirely covered in street art.
