Gov. Gavin Newsom warned California's university leaders Thursday that schools will lose billions in state funding if they cave to President Donald Trump's demands. Newsom's warning comes in response to the Trump administration asking nine universities across the country to sign a compact mandating certain changes in exchange for additional federal funding. First reported by the Washington Post and confirmed by The Wall Street Journal Thursday, the proposal a 10-point memo referred to as the Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education

Female students say they are still sharing toilets and changing rooms with biological males, despite a recent Supreme Court ruling on the legal definition of a woman. Several women at UCL, speaking anonymously due to fears of being vilified by colleagues, say the institution has continued to allow trans women to use female facilities. Other universities including Edinburgh, Southampton, Bath and Nottingham have also yet to publish updated guidance on the issue.

The judge ruled the Massachusetts student's First Amendment rights were violated after he was disciplined for discussing sexual topics and seeking affection from colleagues.

The University does not assert that it relied on the requirements of a federal statute or regulation in deciding to not to amend its policy - only on the risks associated with adopting a policy that the federal government might consider unlawful.

The confusion created by the trans policy update has led to significant emotional distress for Warwick University students, highlighting the need for clarity regarding access to gendered facilities.

The Biden administration is pursuing heavy fines from Harvard and other universities to end investigations into campus antisemitism, mirroring a deal with Columbia University.

The University of North Carolina System's Board of Governors required each campus to develop a subcommittee to evaluate compliance with the anti-diversity, equity and inclusion policy, mandating neutrality from administrators on political and social issues.

Noem stated, "Some of these universities have even barred law enforcement officers from coming on campus, and haven't even allowed there to be basic law and order on the areas that they're responsible for."

Yale University received praise from the Joint Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism for its response to protests during Itamar Ben-Gvir's visit, highlighting the university's proactive stance on policy violations.

As Phillips stated, “It’s a suppression of freedom of speech about an issue that I think should be shouted from the rooftops - unlawful, unconstitutional abductions of university students.”
