The charge means Robinson could face the death penalty if convicted of killing Mr Kirk last week. Prosecutors allege Robinson shot Mr Kirk in the neck with a bolt-action rifle from the roof of a nearby campus building.

The alleged attacker, identified as 22-year-old Utah native Tyler R., was taken into custody on September 12. Once Tyler R. was apprehended, his mugshot was made public.
