The White Sox announced that right-hander Jairo Iriarte and catcher have cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte, per Scott Merkin of MLB.com. Both will be in big league camp in spring training as non-roster invitees. The two were designated for assignment earlier this week as corresponding moves when the White Sox acquired Jordan Hicks and David Sandlin from the Red Sox.
The Red Sox announced that they have claimed utility player Mickey Gasper off waivers from the Nationals. Washington designated him for assignment last week when they claimed Richard Lovelady. Boston had a couple of 40-man openings after trading Jordan Hicks and David Sandlin to the White Sox a few days ago. This claim moves their count from 38 to 39. More to come.
The Sharks were carrying 22 players on their active roster as of early Friday and had three others forwards Kiefer Sherwood and Philipp Kurashev and defenseman Shakir Mukhamadullin on IR. Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky said last week that Mukhamadullin was getting closer to a return, and that he was optimistic that Kurashev and Sherwood could be activated before the end of the team's road trip on Feb. 4. All three players were dealing with upper body injuries.
The Angels announced that they have claimed right-hander Osvaldo Bido off waivers from the Marlins. Miami had designated Bido for assignment last week when they acquired Bradley Blalock from the Rockies. The Halos have an open 40-man roster spot for this claim but their agreement with infielder Yoan Moncada is not yet official. By filling up their last 40-man spot today, they will now have to make a corresponding move whenever Moncada's deal does become official. More to come.
The Orioles announced that outfielder Jhonkensy Noel has cleared outright waivers and been assigned to Triple-A Norfolk. He will stay in Baltimore's system but without taking up a spot on the roster. The O's are one of the most aggressive clubs when it comes to claiming players from the waiver wire and then putting them back out there shortly thereafter. The desired result is that the player clears, allowing the club to keep the player in a non-roster capacity, which has happened in this case.
The 28-year-old right-hander made his major league debut for the Blue Jays last season and tied the MLB record for strikeouts by a reliever in their debut with eight against the Seattle Mariners on April 20. He made 13 appearances (two opener starts) and pitched to a 4.38 ERA and 1.42 WHIP with 28 strikeouts and eight walks over 24.2 innings. Schultz also spent a good portion of the season in Buffalo, logging a 3.31 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 46 strikeouts, and 17 walks over 49 innings.
Rifai is working his way back from wrist surgery that has kept him sidelined for the entire season to date, and was placed on waivers on Sunday in order to report back to the American Hockey League. The 27-year-old defenceman has played in one game for the Marlies this season and had 13 points in 63 games for the AHL squad in 2024-25.
When a team designates a player for assignment, he is removed from that club's 40-man roster. The team then has a period of time with some ability to impact what is next for that player. This is colloquially referred to as "DFA limbo". The team can trade the player to another club, unless the trade deadline has passed and the new offseason has not yet begun. The team can also place the player on outright or release waivers.

The Orioles have claimed outfielder Will Robertson off waivers from the Pirates, according to Jake Rill of MLB.com. There wasn't any previous indication Robertson was on the wire but it seems the Bucs tried to sneak him through waivers in order to open a 40-man spot. The Orioles swooped in to grab him, so Pittsburgh loses Robertson but they do open a roster spot, going from 39 to 38.

Originally drafted 24th overall by the Nashville Predators in 2019, Tomasino has yet to fully establish himself as a regular NHL player who can be entrusted to play more than 15 minutes a night. He showed flashes of his potential in the early going, but struggled in his last season in Nashville before a midseason trade to Pittsburgh. His production saw an uptick after joining the Penguins, recording 23 points (11 goals and 12 assists) in 50 games played to provide
Wright will depart from the organization without making a big-league appearance. Kansas City acquired him in a November 2023 trade that sent Jackson Kowar to the Braves. Wright was recovering from shoulder surgery at the time. He did not throw a pitch in 2024. Wright made eight appearances at two minor-league levels in 2025, but an oblique injury ended his season in July.
That's obviously a tiny sample of work but his minor league track record also isn't great. From 2021 to 2023, he hit .233/.350/.419 on the farm. That offense translates to a 104 wRC+, indicating he was above average but barely. He struck out in 29% of his plate appearances in that time. In 2024, he had a monster .299/.372/.514 showing in Triple-A.
Colorado turned down its end of a mutual option on Estrada earlier this week, but since he has yet to accrue six years of major league service, he remained on the roster as an arbitration-eligible player. After Estrada missed most of the 2025 season due to injury and hit just .253/.285/.370 when healthy, the Rox will move on and Estrada will head to the open market in search of new opportunities.
