The locked-room mystery-otherwise known as the "impossible crime" mystery-is not to be confused with the closed-circle mystery often associated with the queen of Golden Age detective fiction, Agatha Christie. The classic "country house during a blizzard" setting with an array of suspects, each of whom might have committed the murder, is a closed-circle setup, as is Christie's Orient Express train, and the steamer in Death on the Nile. In a locked-room mystery, it seems that no one could have done it and escaped undetected.

The third instalment, Wake Up Dead Man, premiered to rave reviews, with Josh O'Connor being cited as the movie's standout performer, and now Netflix viewers get to enjoy Knives Out 3 too, as it arrives on the streaming platform today (12 December). Wake Up Dead Man is set to drop on Netflix at 12:00am Pacific Time, and is tipped to "dominate December streaming," according to T3.

So, on the eve of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery arriving on the streaming service, Netflix has released "Forks Out," a new sketch in which Detective Beignet Blanc - obviously riffing on Daniel Craig 's signature role as Benoit Blanc - arrives just in time to solve a dastardly crime: Who ate Cookie Monster's triple berry pie?

By that he meant that Wake Up Dead Man, the latest Benoit Blanc mystery, would harken back to the origins of the whodunit, and in particular the gothic vibes of Edgar Allan Poe. And now that I've seen it, I have to say that Johnson pulled it off: the new movie has a darker and more spiritual feel than its predecessors, and yet it's still distinctly Knives Out, which is to say twisting and hilarious. I gasped a few times, as did the rest of audience, at the many reveals.
