"Generative AI is becoming ever-more prevalent in everyday life. Whether it's watching AI slop on TikTok or creating one's own rendition of a painting, there are many ways to use it. At the forefront is none other than ChatGPT. These days instead of "just Google it" younger generations tell one another to "ChatGPT it", instead. Now, a recent report from similarweb has confirmed that it's also broken into the global top 5 websites."
"While there are some fluctuations, the top 3 are consistent with Google at the top, followed by YouTube and Facebook. After that things get interesting and as of Summer 2025, the fifth spot seems to have crisscrossed multiple times between popular online shopping site Amazon and ChatGPT. The report highlights that the AI tool's rise stems from user intent, with people turning to it for answers, creativity and learning, rather than entertainment or shopping."
"While ChatGPT is the most well-known and most used, there is a decent amount of diversity in the generative AI market. Google Gemini managed to reach second place, but only has about 12.5% of all generative AI traffic in September 2025. Other notable chatbots include China's Deepseek which managed 4% in the same month and X's own Grok has also seen an increase in use as well."
ChatGPT has entered the global top five most-visited websites, joining Google, YouTube, and Facebook. The fifth position has alternated between ChatGPT and Amazon through Summer 2025. Growth is driven by user intent centered on answers, creativity, and learning rather than entertainment or shopping. Generative AI market shows diversity: Google Gemini, Deepseek, and Grok capture portions of traffic. AI browsers and new use cases are expanding adoption. Monthly traffic comparisons show ChatGPT rivaling established platforms and reshaping how younger users seek information. Shifts in visitation patterns reflect changing user behavior and broader integration of AI into everyday tasks.
