People We Meet: Chalking for 20 years
Briefly

Nikolas Larson, a lifelong artist from Monterey, uses the intersection of Shotwell and 25th Streets in the Mission as his outdoor studio for chalk artwork. Since 2010, he has embraced chalk art, specializing in geometric mandalas and mythical figures. Despite the challenges posed by wind and weather, he thrives on the public nature of his art, enjoying interactions with locals. He finds creative fulfillment in chalk art as both a hobby and a contribution to the neighborhood's vibrant artistic scene.
"So the public art nature of it is something I really enjoy, and talking to the locals."
"At its best, it can be an almost sensuous kind of thing, like on a warm day."
