Crime drops in Brooklyn as city reports historically-low shootings and murders * Brooklyn Paper
Briefly

In May, Brooklyn witnessed a significant reduction in violent crime, with major felonies declining over 7% year-over-year, according to NYPD data. Total reported incidents dropped from 2,517 to 2,324. Murders decreased by over 66% and shootings fell 45% compared to the previous year. This positive trend has been attributed to the NYPD's ongoing efforts to eliminate illegal firearms and the implementation of the Summer Violence Reduction Plan, launched on May 5, which deployed ample officers to high-crime areas. Commissioner Tisch emphasized the importance of continuing these safety strategies.
"We will not let up," Tisch said in a statement. "Our summer violence reduction plan is bold and aggressive and designed to continue driving the same historic safety gains."
According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, New York City recorded the lowest number of shootings and murders in history during the first five months of this year.
