Disney accuses Google of widespread copyright infringement, alleging Google's AI models have generated images resembling characters from Frozen, Deadpool, Star Wars, and others. Disney sent a cease-and-desist letter demanding Google stop copying a large corpus of Disney's copyrighted works without authorization to train and develop generative AI models and services. Disney stated that it will not tolerate unauthorized commercial exploitation of its characters. The notice arrived one day before Disney announced a billion-dollar deal with OpenAI to let Sora AI users create videos using more than 200 characters from Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars, with AI-generated videos appearing on Disney Plus. Disney has previously sent cease-and-desist letters to Meta and Character.AI.
