Liam McInerney, 44, was jailed for 18 weeks following a violent incident involving an off-duty police officer. The assault occurred on November 9 when McInerney was caught stealing from a Greggs store in Bishopsgate, close to Liverpool Street station. When the officer intervened, McInerney punched him and spat at him. McInerney pleaded guilty to the charges of common assault and theft, and he was also ordered to pay £200 in compensation to the victim during his sentencing at City of London Magistrates' Court.
