"It's absolutely a trend. Every week, there are reports of assaults on the quays, stabbings, and attacks on residents and visitors alike. It's not speaking down to the city to say we have substantial issues, and these won't be addressed by wishing them away. It's bleak in Dublin city centre at the moment,"
"I don't have enough to comment on that."
NFL players were in Dublin to play a historic first league match at Croke Park against the Minnesota Vikings. Reserve quarterback Skylar Thompson, 28, was reportedly jumped and robbed in the early hours of Saturday near the Temple Bar area, and his phone was taken. Thompson sustained minor injuries and was briefly treated at St James' Hospital before discharge. Gardaí said officers from Pearse Street encountered a man on Dame Street who required medical assistance, that no formal complaint had been made, and that there was no further information to substantiate reports of a robbery. Local TD Gary Gannon described a trend of assaults, stabbings, and attacks affecting the city centre.
