A group of women ran an experiment called #WearthePants by changing their LinkedIn profile genders and names to male. Multiple participants reported large increases in post impressions and engagement soon after switching to male profiles. Heavy LinkedIn users had noted recent drops in visibility coinciding with LinkedIn's implementation of LLMs to surface content. One participant reported a 238% impressions increase within a day after changing her profile gender to male. LinkedIn stated that its algorithm and AI systems do not use demographic signals such as gender and cautioned against drawing conclusions from short-term feed snapshots.
