Gunman gets 12 years in prison for shooting woman in Flushing over a relative's debt: DA - QNS
Briefly

Minliang Zheng, 52, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for shooting a woman in Flushing in March 2023 over a family debt dispute. Zheng was convicted of assault and criminal possession of a weapon following a trial in which jurors took about an hour to deliberate. The victim was unconnected to Zheng's financial issues and was shot while loading laundry. Surveillance footage captured the incident. Zheng fled to Massachusetts after the shooting and was arrested in August 2023 before being extradited to New York in November.
"The defendant shot the victim at point-blank range and in broad daylight simply to send a message."
"He then tried to flee the state to avoid any accountability."
