Blooming Clouds transforms an abandoned site near Samseong Station into a public urban oasis, utilizing modular scaffolding and flexible design. The project contrasts with surrounding high-rise towers, featuring white-painted scaffolding that holds floating balloons. Existing structures were rehabilitated, retaining select components while introducing new reinforcements for stability. The public space includes a flexible courtyard with movable furniture for events. A mirrored wall enhances visual connections to nature, while the layout emphasizes circulation and transparency, fostering an engaging community space.
The design of Blooming Clouds centers on a nested scaffolding system, repurposing construction scaffolding as a structural framework while supporting floating balloons of varied scales.
A mirrored wall at the plaza's edge visually expands the site and reflects sky and greenery, reinforcing the project's conceptual link to nature.
