Dhante Jackson was released from jail in Merced County on Oct. 6 after pleading guilty to an accessory charge in Sophia's death, his attorney and the Merced County District Attorney's Office confirmed this week. His release was a result of having spent nearly three years in jail - a period nearly two years longer than the maximum sentence for the crime to which he pleaded guilty, according to his attorney.
A 7-year-old boy was found dead in a freezer in Lynwood on Tuesday night, and his parents and grandmother have been arrested in connection with the killing, law enforcement sources told The Times. The boy's body was stuffed into a freezer, according to two law enforcement sources with direct knowledge of the case. They spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss an ongoing investigation.
They were arrested in September 2021 after taking Brockman's daughter, A'Miya Dawson, to the emergency room of a Willowbrook hospital after she became unresponsive, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. At the hospital, doctors determined that the girl's injuries did not line up with statements made by Brockman and Whalen. Detectives also searched the couple's apartment and found additional evidence, sheriff's officials said.
