The theft was reported outside a business in the 1600 block of North Vasco Road. The victim, a Livermore resident, told police that a woman in a car asked to pray together, held her hands, and slipped replica gold jewelry onto her wrist. After the woman drove off, the victim realized her real gold bracelet, worth more than $500, was gone, police said.
Every time they hung out, her massive collection of Pokemon cards seemed to get a little smaller. Then, on Jan. 8, the 73-year-old Alameda woman came up with a ruse, police say. She faked going to the bathroom and rushed back into her room, catching her 52-year-old supposed friend in the act of stealing some of her cards, according to police. That's when the woman called authorities.
A Marblehead man was arrested Friday in California after allegedly defrauding more than 100 high school students and chaperones in Florida out of $400,000, authorities said. Robert Goodwin, 56, owner of Stone & Compass travel agency, is facing two counts of grand theft and two counts of organized scheme to defraud, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said in a Sept. 30 press release. His bond is set at $4 million.
Angel Paws Pet Cremation appeared to be a nondescript San Marcos business, where grieving clients brought in their dearly departed pets - until they stopped getting their calls returned, and the building began to smell. Angel Paws owner Christopher Settle was arrested Tuesday for alleged grand theft, in a scheme prosecutors say involved taking in pets for cremations, collecting the payment, and leaving them in freezers to rot as he distributed false ashes.
PETTY THEFT: 10:18 a.m. on Union Avenue. Someone stole a black and gray Trek FX1 bicycle. The total loss is around $800. PETTY THEFT: 2:46 p.m. at 7-11 on North Santa Cruz Avenue. A woman said her boyfriend's Uber took off with his belongings. The loss was about $500 and consisted of a bag, keys, Airpods, charger and clothes. She said she tried to contact Uber, but no one had responded to her.
Theft by access card: At 2:25 p.m. at the Wells Fargo bank on Big Basin Avenue, someone used a ruse to swap debit cards with another person. The suspect then used the other person's debit card to make an unauthorized withdrawal of approximately $8,433. Grand theft: At 7:15 p.m. in a parking lot in the 20000 block of Fourth Street, someone fled with a box of Pokemon cards valued at $1,600 without paying after meeting the seller to see the cards.
