Under plans being worked out by the European game's governing body that are expected to be voted on by its executive committee this week, the Guardian understands Israel would be banned only from competitions that Uefa directly controls. That means Israel's men's and women's national teams would be excluded from the Nations League and Maccabi Tel Aviv would be removed from this season's Europa League.
Members of UEFA's executive committee are reportedly in favour of suspending Israel from UEFA competitions, including the Europa League, according to the Associated Press. The executive committee is the main decision-making body of UEFA and responsible for the organisation's governance. On the panel sits UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin and 19 other elected members. They include Paris Saint-Germain owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi, former FA chair Debbie Hewitt, Champions League winner Dejan Savicevic, Israeli FA president Moshe Zuares and ex-Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke.
Norway's soccer federation says it "cannot remain indifferent" to humanitarian suffering in Gaza and will donate any profits from an upcoming World Cup qualifying game against Israel to aid work there. Norway plays Israel in Oslo on Oct. 11. "Neither we nor other organizations can remain indifferent to the humanitarian suffering and disproportionate attacks that the civilian population in Gaza has been subjected to for a long time," Norwegian Football Federation president Lise Klaveness said in a statement Tuesday.
