A long list of deferred maintenance and other financial issues plaguing the 61-year-old institution mean a last-minute cash infusion is the bar's only hope of getting it back up to code and staying open.

The original sign, created by artist Michael J. Masucci, was erected in 1986, on a small hill located behind a parking lot at 8555 Santa Monica Boulevard, next to the EZTV art gallery. The sign paid homage to the original Hollywood sign and became a cultural landmark and tourist attraction for many years, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community during the AIDS crisis.
This was a sacred site to those who loved the 49 and anybody else that had visited Pulse. The club was welcoming to the LGBTQ+ community and a diverse range of other patrons, and the memorial would be a site of healing for a city that would never forget those who were killed.
I chose my words poorly, and I understand why it upset people. I'm sorry to anyone who was offended. That's not how I want to represent myself. I have some close friends in the LGBTQ+ community who I would never want to feel less of themselves because of what I said, and that's exactly why I should hold myself to a higher standard.

Adult entertainment store Hubba Hubba is closing its doors after serving the alternative and LGBTQ+ community in the area for four decades. In an Instagram post last week, owner M.J. Pullins wrote that the store is ceasing operations on Nov. 24, citing rising costs, "miserly landlords," and an economic climate that is not conducive to small businesses. Pullins wrote that the challenges "made this a fight not worth fighting anymore."
57 percent of the LGBTQ+ adults surveyed said they have made "significant life decisions" or taken steps to alter their lives since November 2024 in response to the current political climate. Life changes in response to LGBTQ+-related politics or laws include moving to another state, changing jobs, becoming less visible in their community, and, conversely, becoming more visible and involved in LGBTQ+ advocacy.
