A woman in her 80s has died after being struck by a tree branch in Mississauga, said police. Officers responded around 2:30 p.m. on Friday near High Street E. and Lakeshore Road E. for a medical assist call, said Peel police in an emailed statement. They located a woman who had been hit by a tree branch that had fallen due to high winds. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital, said police.

A house fire in Mississauga on Halloween night is being investigated as suspicious, Peel police say. Just before 9 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a residential fire in the area of Mississauga and Kane roads, where they found Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services crews working to extinguish a blaze at a two-storey home, Peel police said in an email. The house sustained heavy damage as a result.

Ontario hasn't provided a public update on when a major Mississauga transit line will be completed in more than five years, according to internal documents, as work continues on the light-rail project originally set to open last fall. Premier Doug Ford's government first awarded a contract to build the Hurontario LRT in October 2020 and pegged the completion date to the fall of 2024. Partway through 2025, the line has yet to open.
