The Leatherman, a mysterious figure in the 1800s, walked a 365-mile loop in New York and Connecticut, leaving a lasting legacy.
Glimpse them chatting in a restaurant or posing on Instagram, and you might think they have it all. The pair live in London but often travel, drawing the eyes of other guests, their skin glowing, their limbs artfully at ease. She writes affirmations on hotel stationery; he claims to taste notes of bark and tobacco in his chianti. As Sean Gilbert's dark, observant debut opens in Istanbul, this apparently perfect couple bicker and sweat, for secrets lurk behind their facade and one of them might be murder.
The first season ends with Liam piecing together the truth about Greta's disappearance. As teens back in school, the girls helped Greta bury the body of a journalist (Josh Finan) who threatened to expose the truth about her role in a tragic fire as a young child. When the past catches up with Greta, she fakes her own death with a secret organization that helps women in dire situations.
There are plot twists galore, big laughs, big explosions and a gallery of wonderfully colourful supporting characters Imagine if the Derry Girls were Belfast girls in their late 30s and found themselves having to solve an eerie mystery involving the death of a former friend. That's a reasonable, bare-bones description of Lisa McGee's sparkling comedy-thriller How to Get to Heaven from Belfast (Netflix, from Thursday, February 12).
It's supposed to be a good thing, isn't it: finding something that got lost? But what if that lost thing isn't just a pair of sunglasses but a whole entire boat, the likes of which hasn't been seen for 30 years? In Mark Jenkin's forthcoming Rose of Nevada, out June 19, the title refers to said missing ship, once lost only to now drift back into the harbor of the remote fishing village whence it disappeared.
Nadira Goffe: Jenny! I'm so excited to gab about this episode for a bit, because woof-or should I say hoof?-what an episode it was. I would call it egg-cellent, because most of it is about Egg, the adorable, mysteriously bald stable boy who becomes Dunk's squire. It's 30 minutes of the unlikely friends just hangin' out, really living up to the title of the George R.R. Martin novellas that the show is based on, Tales of Dunk and Egg. Dunk teaches Egg how to mend a patch in clothing, they cheer over the day's jousts, and there's a scene in which the two role-play a conversation about eating salt beef that is so stinkin' cute I had a lopsided smile on my face the whole time. At one point, the gentle giant cooks his tiny squire a meal with goose eggs that have yolks so large I instantly sensed that there was some sort of subtext going on as they sizzled in the pan.
Obnoxious jewellery dealer Rodney Manderson has been killed outside the Bowery auction rooms, stabbed through the eye with the Victorian hatpin that his boss, Rose Bowery, has brandished in front of the nation on Bargain Hunt. As she discussed the pin's virtues as a deadly weapon as well as its millinerial uses, the fiercely loyal Rilke decides while feeling grateful to have skipped lunch and trying not to think of jelly to remove it before calling the police.
The award-winning Australian writer's third adult novel begins with a lone woman, Rowan, washed up on a remote island between Tasmania and Antarctica. Shearwater is a research outpost, home to the global seed vault created as a bulwark against climate catastrophe and to colonies of seals, penguins and birds. For eight years, Dominic Salt and his children have lived there, but dangerously rising sea levels mean that they, and the vault, will shortly be evacuated.
Pantozzi's premise remains intriguing throughout, even if we're not exactly rooting for Tim in any capacity. He's not always likable or charitable, and the way he treats his mother will put some viewers off. Still, Pantozzi builds the tension nicely and knows how to slowly reveal the nuts and bolts of the mystery at hand. Robertson is especially good as his poor mother, who only has the best intentions for her son and cannot wrap her head around his depression.
We knew it was Apple TV's next big bet in experimental sci-fi, a market the streamer had cornered with series like , Foundation, and For All Mankind. But unlike those series, the plot wasn't immediately obvious. You can describe the premise of something like very easily, but the only description for Pluribus described it as: "following the most miserable person on Earth and the one who must save the world from happiness." And the official trailer didn't reveal much else.
At the first opportunity, Sarah runs from him, but he tackles and points a gun at her before deciding to let her make her choice. She can either get back in the van or let herself be caught by "them," the people who intend to kill her. So, she gets back in the van. While she's at it, she might as well get an answer from Downey: Who is "they"?
Scotty Bristol, is a successful late-night host/miserable human being played by outgoing host of The Late Show and national treasure Stephen Colbert. Scotty is a real prince: He's nasty and ungracious to his staff, doesn't bother to prepare for interviews with his guests, and torments his writers by making sure they can see and hear him shredding their joke pitches.
