Ask any New Yorker: Happy hour isn't what it used to be. The rise of remote work, paired with thinner margins for restaurants has left the most jubilant time of day, well, a bit lacking in recent years. Luckily, some restaurants and bars are still trying to entice the after work card with tempting specials on food and beverage that bring back the age old tradition of happy hour in New York City. Here's where to seek out some of the most unique happy hours across Manhattan and Brooklyn:
Sandwich maker Potbelly is being acquired by the gas station and convenience store chain RaceTrac for $566 million. Potbelly, which was founded in Chicago in 1977, has 445 restaurants across the U.S. company said the deal with RaceTrac will help it reach its goal of quadrupling in size to 2,000 locations. Potbelly stores are both company- and franchise-owned.
While this year's Taste of Los Gatos will feature Rush cover band R50 and Livewire headlining the main stage, with Chain of Fools, Identity Problem, Phill & Rob and Sam Marshall scattered throughout the one-day street party, make no mistake, the essence of the fest will be the nibbles and libations. "It's really telling the story of Los Gatos as a culinary destination," Chamber Executive Director Jennifer Lin said about the event, taking place on Sept. 6. "I really do feel like we're experiencing a culinary renaissance here."
Managed pubs outperformed restaurants throughout the first half of the year, and they again achieved the best growth of the Tracker's segments in July, at 0.6%. They were boosted by periods of warm weather in many parts of Britain, but comparisons were held down by the Euro 2024 football tournament, which brought millions of people out to watch games in pubs last July.

I realize that Portland's national reputation is still spotty. Businesses are leaving downtown and everyone is working from home or whatever. I'm not saying that stuff isn't true. I'm just saying I've spent all summer in Portland and this town fucking rules.
Cesar Mesen, owner of The Pint Public House, indicated that despite receiving a high volume of resumes, he cannot afford to hire more staff due to economic conditions. He stated, "If we post for one position, we maybe get 90, 100 candidates." Mesen's pub typically hires around 40 to 50 people for the summer, but this season's hiring was a fraction of that. He mentioned, "I cannot just hire people because I feel bad for them right now, we don't have a need to hire." Job losses predominantly affected young individuals, particularly those aged 15 to 24.
