In Boston, a road rage incident led to serious charges against 27-year-old Andrew Oprian, who allegedly attacked another driver with a hatchet. On May 17, Oprian drove erratically at 10 mph, swerving to prevent another vehicle from passing. When the other driver crashed into a tree, Oprian approached and violently smashed the windshield with a hatchet before fleeing the scene. He was later identified through surveillance footage, facing charges including assault with a dangerous weapon. The Suffolk District Attorney emphasized the danger of the incident in seeking a dangerousness finding against Oprian.
In response to the driver trying to pass him, Oprian allegedly drove them off the road and into a tree.
Oprian was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and malicious destruction of property over $1,200.
Anyone watching this video can understand how terrified the victim must have been and how dangerous the whole situation was.
We are selective in moving for dangerousness findings and this is a case where seeking such a finding is entirely justified.
