"You don't have to step on Taylor Swift's lawn for her to sue you. She's got a Reputation for taking anyone who isn't running the White House's social media account to court over the smallest chance that they're trying to piggyback their operations off her IP - especially if you're on Etsy. The most recent target of Swift's swift legal action? A bedding company. Creative Bloq has coverage:"
"The suit claims that the company's goofy S swoop (I'm paraphrasing here) looks a little too similar to Taylor's scribbles and people could mistake a connection at first glance. No clue how representative my first impressions are of the general population's, but my initial thoughts consisted of "What font is that even?" and "What the hell does a wing have to do with a bedding company?" Goes to show how much I know about trademarks and marketing."
Taylor Swift's legal team filed opposition to Cathay Home's trademark application for the "Swift Home" bedding brand, alleging the brand's logo and name are confusingly similar to Swift's signature and marks. The complaint contends the company's S-shaped swoop and wing imagery could cause consumers to mistakenly believe an association with Swift. The dispute is unresolved and adds to more than 300 trademark filings associated with Swift. A side-by-side comparison of marks was circulated. Observers questioned the relevance of wing imagery for bedding and joked about renaming the brand "Bedding (Swift's Version)."
