On OCD, Carl Jung, and the Teachings of Jesus
Briefly

Inner peace is a significant pursuit influenced by personal experiences with obsessive compulsive disorder. The journey of self-discovery involved a struggle to align cognitive, emotional, and behavioral aspects of existence. Understanding misalignments prompted deeper questions about personal identity and wholeness. Exposure therapy was utilized in treatment, enabling individuals to confront their fears progressively. Working with youth in psychiatric settings provided insights into the challenges of OCD and the methods employed to help attain inner harmony.
Gazing over the industrialized cow paths that weave through Boston stands a stone sculpture of Christ dressed in priestly robes. He holds a ceremonial orb in his left hand and the posture of inner peace in his right.
After receiving guidance, I gained more objectivity towards my inner life. I became able to see the different elements of my experience more clearly-the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral facets-and how they were misaligned.
This question continues to define my pursuit of inner peace: What does it mean to have the parts of me, including what I felt was trapped deep within my being, in right relationship with the whole?
Over the last two years, I have worked with youth in a residential psychiatric program who also struggle with OCD. The treatment we use is exposure and response prevention therapy.
