New York's passion for pizza may only be rivaled by Italy's, so it's no small feat when Italian judges rank an Upstate shop among the best on the planet. Jay's Artisan Pizzeria in Kenmore, just north of Buffalo, has landed on the Guide to the 50 Best Pizzerias in the World for the fourth straight year. This year, Jay's broke into the top 15, earning the No. 14 spot. The annual list, published in Italy by 50 Top Pizza, features heavyweights from pizza capitals such as Naples, Barcelona, Rome and New York City.
BUSHWICK -- We all know New York pizza is impossible to beat, but two brothers joined with their best friend, along with a well-known chef to bring a taste of Detroit-style pizza to Bushwick. Turbo Pizza is a familiar dive bar that serves Detroit-style pizza, wings and salads to the Bushwick neighborhood. They discuss what makes their pizza unique, including the dough and cheese blend.
Pizza Pushers uses a focaccia base for its dough, resulting in the light and airy crust that Detroit style is known for. In addition to traditional toppings like pepperoni and sausage, the restaurant also offers pies with vodka cream sauce and pickled jalapeños. Even for city dwellers, it's worth a commute.
