A Santa Rosa restaurant owner was arrested early Sunday after police say he fired a gun during a dispute with a customer over a bill. Moises Flores, 48, was taken into custody shortly after the altercation, reported about 4:10 a.m. at Dos Culturas Restaurant, 1709 Santa Rosa Ave., according to the Santa Rosa Police Department. He faces allegations including assault with a deadly weapon and shooting at an occupied vehicle.

Saying that the right wants to exterminate trans people is not hyperbole. Republican bigotry has fueled an array of initiatives designed to drive trans people out of public life. But conservatives aren't content with turning trans people into fourth-class citizens. They want the public to see them as enemies of the state-as mentally ill savages pulling the country into the moral abyss. America's never-ending gun violence has become a useful tool in this effort.

The truth is, 96% of mass shootings are carried out by cisgender (non-transgender) men, a fact Ainsworth does not tweet about.

The alleged gunman who killed three officers and wounded two more in southern Pennsylvania before he was killed by police was a 24-year-old being sought on stalking charges, according to court documents and law enforcement. A 2019 study from Tobias Greitemeyer, a Department of Psychology professor a the University of Innsbruck in Austria, suggested that time spent playing violent video games "increases aggression in the player." The research also suggested that "violent video game play also affects individuals with whom the player is connected."

On June 25, 2024, the US Surgeon General issued an advisory declaring gun violence a public health crisis. To address the issue, he highlighted public health approaches like research, community violence prevention, and safe storage education. His suggested remedies are just that: suggested. All would require legislation passed by Congress to implement nationwide. According to 2022 Center for Disease Control data, there is an average of 53 gun homicides per day. On a local level, preventative measures can be implemented immediately.

OAKLAND A 67-year-old man fatally shot outside his West Oakland home last week was an innocent victim hit by a stray bullet fired during a gun battle between the occupants of moving vehicles, police said. Tony Jerome Norman was shot about 5 p.m. Aug. 27 after walking home from BART to his residence in the 700 block of 17th Street after completing his shift as a security guard at a San Francisco Kaiser Permanente hospital.

A 12-year-old boy from Toronto has been charged with attempted murder after a man was shot in Markham last month, York Regional Police said. Officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds when they responded to reports of a shooting near McCowan Road and 14th Avenue on Aug. 14, police said in a news release Wednesday. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
