Alphabet ( NASDAQ:GOOG )( NASDAQ:GOOGL ) is hitting its stride in artificial intelligence. Its Gemini model continues to advance rapidly in capabilities and adoption. Late last month, Google launched Project Genie, an experimental world model that generates interactive, real-time 3D environments from simple text or image prompts. The release has sent shockwaves through the tech sector, particularly among software stocks. Investors worry that rapid AI progress could automate tasks currently requiring specialized design and development tools.

Google has just started rolling out access to its new "experimental research prototype" Project Genie, an AI tool powered by Genie 3 and Gemini that allows users to create interactive, explorable worlds with a simple text prompt. Unsurprisingly, someone has immediately used it to generate a bunch of playable Nintendo knock-offs, including a The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild clone, complete with a usable paraglider.

This past summer, Google DeepMind debuted Genie 3. It's what's known as a world world, an AI system capable of generating images and reacting as the user moves through the environment the software is simulating. At the time, DeepMind positioned Genie 3 as a tool for training AI agents. Now, it's making the model available to people outside of Google to try with Project Genie.
