OAKLAND A 67-year-old man fatally shot outside his West Oakland home last week was an innocent victim hit by a stray bullet fired during a gun battle between the occupants of moving vehicles, police said. Tony Jerome Norman was shot about 5 p.m. Aug. 27 after walking home from BART to his residence in the 700 block of 17th Street after completing his shift as a security guard at a San Francisco Kaiser Permanente hospital.

"He's part of a brotherhood-just like the NYPD, FDNY, and EMS," said fellow security guard and doorman Michael Nared. "We're a unique group of people who do the job we do."

A local poker hall security guard has been charged with stealing a $100,000 diamond ring that a high roller accidentally dropped on the floor.

"Moody picks me up by my hips, lifts me into the air, carries me up these stairs in front of all these young women. I looked at him like never do that again! I've never felt so emasculated."
