Five extra minutes of daily moderate-to-vigorous activity prevents up to 1 in 10 early deaths, with greatest benefits for the least active people.
A groundbreaking study found that adults who sit for 10 or more hours daily face a significantly higher risk of dementia compared to those who sit less. The research, which tracked over 50,000 adults using wearable devices, revealed that the risk increases dramatically after crossing that 10-hour threshold.
Recent surveys estimate more than 6.7 million Australians - almost half of all workers, and the majority in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra - work from home at least some of the time in paid or unpaid roles. With that increase in working from home, it's easy to spend too long sitting, which is now recognised as bad for our health.
