Hospitals across South West London are bracing for disruption this week as resident doctors begin a five-day strike on Friday. This comes as the NHS faces one of its busiest summers in recent years due to high emergency admissions driven by heatwaves and complex patient needs.

Officers responded to a 'self-inflicted gunshot wound' involving a toddler around 1:40 a.m. at the 2200 block of NW 210th Street, Miami Gardens police spokesperson Diana Delgado told the Herald. The young child had taken a single bullet to the leg when cops arrived.
"Imagine getting stuck talking to someone for eight minutes about a neighbor's dog barking, only to answer the next call late, because of that noise complaint, and hear the trembling voice of a five-year-old whose dad has just collapsed on the floor."
Kuba Dmowski, Sean Holden, and Tiernan Codd, upon witnessing a group swimming into a dangerous area, took immediate action by calling emergency services, resulting in a successful rescue.
"The June 15 damage in Van Nuys interrupted critical communications, impacting connectivity and redundancy to emergency services, including a U.S. military base, 911 services, and healthcare facilities."
Officers were called to the railway line in Tonge, near Sittingbourne, shortly after 12.45pm on Sunday following reports of a train striking a van. Paramedics also attended, but the person died at the scene.
A spokesperson for Pitta Patta Nursery said the child was involved in an incident whilst playing in the garden area. It added that due to an initial misunderstanding, the emergency services contacted the police, which suggested that a more serious event had occurred.
