An English tourist was treated in hospital after a knife attack in Temple Bar late on Saturday night, close to where another English tourist was left in a critical condition after an unrelated attack a month ago.

The 51-year-old man died after he suffered serious injuries following an interaction with gardai. The man was involved in an incident with gardai close to the Holiday Inn on O'Connell Street last Friday. He died days later. Fiosru, the Office of the Police Ombudsman, said it is independently investigating the incident and has commenced a criminal investigation into it. It said the incident, which happened at around 4.15am, involved the serious harm of the man, who later died.

Shortly before 10am, gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the incident on Churchtown Road Upper, Dundrum. The on-duty Garda member was taken to Tallaght University Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries, a Garda spokesperson said.
