Friday was a beautiful night for a Krampuslauf or "Krampus run," a holiday activity that draws from Alpine folklore where mischief-makers dress up like horned creatures and caper together through their town. The Portland version of this-a little more costume-forward and kid-friendly-has been meeting up and merrily marching on or around Krampusnacht since 2010.

The Rainbow World Fund (RWF) World Tree of Hope® is the largest origami-decorated holiday tree in the world, traditionally standing over 22 feet tall and adorned with over 20,000 origami cranes and stars, each hand-folded and inscribed with wishes for the future of the world. The RWF World Tree of Hope is created each year as a symbol of global unity, promoting peace, love, and humanitarianism. The Tree is a gift from the LGBTQ+ and friends community to the world.
Each year, the two-acre Plaza De Cesar Chavez is transformed into a holiday fantasy. Walk through the enchanted forest of decorated trees with over 40 musical and animated exhibits, glittering lights, and the 60-foot Community Giving Tree. Some of the original displays are housed in one of the largest exhibits, the Lima Train, which includes a melting snowman, caroling mice, and elf woodcrafters. Step inside the 50-foot Christmas tree, enjoy free photos with Santa, nightly entertainment, and holiday refreshments.
The DowntownDC Business Improvement District is hosting an official attempt to break the Guinness World Record for couples kissing under mistletoe. The event, National Kiss Under the National Mistletoe, will take place on Saturday, December 13, at Anthem Row (800 K St., NW), from 3 to 6 PM. While the event is free to attend and open to the public, couples of consenting age who want to help break the record must register to secure their spot.
Whether this is your annual tradition or your very first time, this is a very silly, very San Francisco way to bring in the holidays. On the day of the event, make sure to come early to check out Santa's Village. Then stay after the course for the award ceremony, skivvies runway, and drag show. We'll provide changing booths, clothing checks, glam stations, and plenty of selfie ops.
